Curriculum Components

First grader experimenting with sound.Our curriculum and differentiated instruction are aligned to the Common Core standards. Our classroom environment is designed to include independent work, partnerships, small group work and conferencing in all subject areas. For Bible instruction, we focus on the memorization and application of God’s word. Students are challenged to grow and mature in the ways of the Lord through monthly biblical focus themes.

Literacy

2nd grade teacher working with students in reading.For reading instruction, our school utilizes myView Literacy and Great Readers/Great Habits curriculum. Our reading program also consists of read alouds and independent reading across all grades. We target comprehension skills, strategies, and test sophistication. Students are exposed to classroom libraries with a variety of genres, levels and interests. They are given designated times to read independently and reinforce their reading skills. As part of our ELA instruction students utilize Sadlier for vocabulary from grades 2nd through 8th; which is incorporated into their writing. All students receive quality writing and grammar instruction adhering to our NYS Writing Standards. Students develop strategies and skills for writing in all genres and acquire a love for writing through modeling and sharing.

Content Area

For Science, History, and Mathematics we utilize Savvas Learning (formerly Pearson Realize Ed). Our mathematics curriculum also has an online component (Savvas Realize) with rich and engaging content, embedded assessments, and instant data. Math skills and reading strategies are also incorporated into our History and Science curriculum which help to reinforce comprehension.
